A Wedding at The Grandview, in Poughkeepsie New York.

Updated: Feb 6, 2020

It is true what they say….the only thing The Grandview overlooks is the Hudson. As a New York wedding photographer, I have visited my share of wedding venues in August. This bride and groom were married on one of the hottest days in August we have ever had. The kind of heat that makes New Englanders like me go out and buy 6 air conditioners because global warming has officially struck and we need to be ready. During the ceremony, one guest and one bridal party member actually passed out. Thankfully everything turned out okay, but it was brutal heat and not something I would wish on a wedding day.

Even with such heat, the staff at The Grandview were incredible. They brought waters out to all the guests and cool compresses for anyone who needed it. All the while dressed in black tuxedo attire, and you could barely see them flinch from the heat. They were always on top of ushering guests in and out of the air-conditioned ballroom as quickly as can be and pulling up the transportation for the bridal party to head to their formal pictures so as not to make them wait even a moment in the blistering sun. While we were taking photos, the staff was with us, communicating via earpiece with more staff back at the ballroom to keep the timeline flowing perfectly. It was a sight to be seen. Bridal party members were given refreshments, fanned, and truly taken care of every moment by the wonderful staff. In all of my years of weddings, I can say I have never met a more professional and attentive staff as I did at The Grandview. It is more than apparent that they go above and beyond to make each wedding day better than anyone could ever hope for. It was an honor to work alongside them and witness just how good at weddings they really are. If you are thinking of having your wedding in New York, go and see the Grandview. If the ballroom alone does not seal the deal for you, the staff absolutely will. Or perhaps the breathtaking views of the Hudson mixed with the sweet smells of fresh-baked bread and desserts being prepared at the on-premise bakery. It really does not get any better than that.

Apart from the heat, their wedding day was absolutely perfect. From the emotional prayer circle shared by the bride and her ladies to the groom and his men dancing to the Village People in costume, it was a memorable day to be a part of. The bride stole the show in her lace mermaid wedding gown from Majesty Bridal in Danbury Connecticut. While the groom looked ever so dapper in his traditional black tux. The ballroom at the Grandview was softly lit with candles and large chandeliers overhead while the happy couple shared their first dance, speeches, and a meal together as husband and wife. After the impeccably prepared dinner and dessert were done, their closest family and friends gave heartfelt speeches that left no dry eyes in the room. Following the dances and toasts, DJ Tony Flash brought the fun and got the entire room onto the dance floor for hours of fun celebrating the happy couple.

This Poughkeepsie New York Grandview wedding venue has the most incredible backdrop for any New York Bride. Our time with this couple concluded with some heavy rain showers that made it impossible for us to take pictures on the lawns in front of the bridge. But that did not stop us. We were able to get some terrific nighttime wedding photos from the covered balcony just off the ballroom, overlooking the bridge on the Hudson River. The bridge is lit up at each wedding, with the colored lights of the couple’s choosing. How cool is that? It was the perfect way to end such an incredible day. We wish the happy couple all the best in their marriage and are truly honored to have been chosen to photograph their wedding day.

Enjoy this highlight from their incredible day!
